Changes to our website

Apart from the overall appearance, you will have noticed that our 'front page' has changed, now taking you to the latest news. The former front page has been moved to its own 'About Us' page.

The page about Italy has now been removed as it is well out of date and the situation there has changed but little since the page was last updated. However, three new pages have been added. These are reprints from past Newsletters and cover the articles about three of our local gardens (Glenwharrie, Greenwood Close and Woodfoot).

In the not too distant future the 'Gallery' pages will receive a major overhaul with new pictures being added. While not affecting the viewer, the overhaul will involve considerable restructuring of the way the pictures are stored on our website. The site will have to be taken 'off air' for some time, perhaps 1-2 hours, while the update takes place. A warning will be posted in advance.

The site is designed to give best performance at a screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels. We have also gone for a fixed layout rather than the flexible one used previously. This allows better control of the layout. Viewers using higher resolution screens will find a biggish border appearing at each side of the page. For the few of you that are still using 800x600 (or even 640x480) resolution displays, we apologise - you will have to use horizontal scrolling to view the width of the page. Also, in response to some feedback, the text size has been increased.

Testing of the site is done on computers running Microsoft® Windows 98®, Windows Millennium Edition® , Windows XP®, Vista® and Linux using different browsers, including Internet Explorer 5.5, 6 and 7, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator 7.2, Opera 7.0, Safari and Konquerer. It has not been tested on Apple Macintosh software. If anyone out there is using MacOS browsers, please let us know how this site performs.

Whether a Club Member or just a casual browser, please let us know what you think of the site - we are open to all ideas and criticisms! Feel free to tell us what you like about it, what you don't like about it, what you would like added to it or removed from it.

For the technically minded, the site uses a Javascript based menu system with a text based option for browsers that do not have Javascript enabled.

We have removed all direct links to email addresses in an effort to reduce the likelihood of the addresses being 'harvested' for use by spammers and where email addresses. Instead, instructions are given on how to create the proper email address on your mail program..
